The Subways - All Or Nothing

The Subways are an English Indie Rock Band formed in 2003 and if you don't already know their debut album "Young For Eternity" shot the band to stardom with praise pouring in from many fronts. Last.fm's similar artists includes, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, Dirty Pretty Things and Mando Diao.

Their much awaited follow-up "All Or Nothing" was released on the 30th Of June, 2008.

Tracklisting
1. Girls And Boys
2. Kalifornia
3. Alright
4. Shake! Shake!
5. Move To Newlyn
6. All Or Nothing
7. I Won't Let You Down
8. Turnaround
9. Obsession
10. Strawberry Blonde
11. Always Tomorrow
12. Lostboy

Alright(no pun intended), now this album essentially isn't as crazy as their debut but the energy can certainly still be felt in a number of tracks such as Turnaround and Obsession. Looking at the past few years of the band's history, it would explain the increase in the number of mellower songs in this album. Being a fan of "Mary"(my favourite Subways song), I am particularly fond of their acoustic tracks on this album notably Strawberry Blonde and Lostboy, with Move to Newlyn not far behind. However, I'd say that Mary is still by far the best of their acoustic works. Their first single from the album, Alright, is one of my favourite from the album with Girls And Boys deserving a mention too. After several listens, the title track, All Or Nothing, seems to be making steady progress up my "favourite list" as well.

Other notable tracks on the album include Always Tomorrow and Kalifornia with Charlotte's backing vocals on Turnaround being my favourite on the album alongside Girls And Boys.

Overall, The Subways has moved slightly away from their prior musical direction but still carries that burst of energy with them that most of their fans love. This album might sound a little more "pop" than Young For Eternity but it still fits my taste, at least most part of it does.

I give it a 7.5/10.
