I'm sure you have heard countless times of how sports can bring together a community, provide a platform for social integration regardless of race, age or cultural background.
So what then, is your views about a global event such as that of the Olympic Games?
Wouldn't it be one of those rare opportunities for the entire world to gather and showcase some talent, and compete with one another with full sportsmanship?
Why then, is the Beijing Olympic Games being used so extensively as a political platform? Is the world jealous of what China has benefited from hosting the Olympic Games? Or are they just afraid of losing when they finally compete on the track/field/court/pool/house/garden/jail/whatever-else-they-play-on?
I think all these are simply made up and played up by the leaders and the media. The ones who have no balls to compete in the events themselves and probably never played any competitive sports in their entire life.
If not, why else would they create all these unnecessary troubles?
If they'd understand the passion of athletes, they'd know that athletes' compete to win, for self satisfaction, and most importantly, they compete for the love of the sport. They just love it, that simple. Or at least most of them do.
Do you think it matters if their opponent's black, white, yellow, green, purple or pink? Except for maybe a little complacency if it's pink, I don't think it matters at all. When you're in the game, it really doesn't matter. They're all there for the same purpose, the love of the sport.
So I say drop all the non-sports related bullshit. And compete like it is any other sporting event held at any other place.
Peace.
TY
